So with how well received my post was last week with the Hiddenfolk, I want to do that again with a potentially strange creature to have as a playable species, especially with the system "just starting out" and that is the Fafnian Dragon.

I wanted to start thinking about adding dragons, especially in a broader sense as a playable species since the start of NovArchiac, but most games didn't do that. So, I spent time developing my own takes on half-dragons, but honestly, it always felt strange to me to do that, especially when I just wanted to create a base dragon as an option. With NovArchaic, I decided I wanted to try to take a step away from the normal "form-fitting" species design (aka, everything must be humanoid) and do more fantastical creatures, and starting with dragons as an option for that seemed to fit the bill.

These dragons, fafnian, are supposed to be my "cleaver" way to point towards dragons that are similar to Fáfnir from Nordic and wider Germanic mythology. I chose Fáfnir to represent a dragon that looks like a very large salamander, with wings; so dragons that look like the common dragons form the game about them and dungeons.

I am still working on some of the specifics of how they will work but they will be a well-balanced option compared to some of the other species. They will be about 2.8 meters tall (more than 9 feet), with an ok base physical health (16) and spiritual health (20). They will have three natural attacks (claws, bite, and tail). They can also move by not just walking, climbing, and swimming, but they also have a flight speed. Currently, they also gain an innate spell to sense magical energies, like spells, magic items, and the such.
In the future, there will be traits for dragons to truly empower themselves, and become as scary as they are in myths. I even will have them have a secret ritual they can do to bind themselves to a leyline and gain special powers (like empowered elemental breath, or fast healing).

So What do you all think? Would you have fun being a dragon? Or is this concept a bit too powerful for play at a table?
